“Call Me by Your Name” director and Oscar nominee Luca Guadagnino's new show “We Are Who We Are” is premiering this Monday on HBO. The long awaited limited series is a coming of age story of young teens dealing with love, identity, and friendship while living on a military base in Italy.
“I feel like on the one hand that this is a new film of mine. It feels like a movie to me, but I enjoyed the episodic-ness of the story” he told Variety in an interview. The show is based in 2016 before the Presidential election. He decided to do this due to the climate of how the election affected many people not just in the United States, but worldwide. This is Guadagnino's first TV show and directed all 8 episodes of the series.
The show stars Fraser (Jack Dylan Grazer) and Caitlin (Jordan Kristine Seamón) who are two teens trying to navigate life living in Italy. They build a friendship due to their need to find freedom and to feel like they belong. Frasers mothers Sarah (Chloë Sevigny) and Maggie (Alice Braga) are both in the U.S Army along with Caitlin's father Richard (Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi).
The show also stars Spence Moore II, Faith Alabi, Francesca Scorsese, and Ben Taylor.
You can follow them on Instagram for photo montages, interviews with cast members, and sneak peeks into the series.
The show will premiere on HBO September 14 in the US and October 8 on Sky Atlantic in Italy.
